h2. PIT BOSS Sunglasses He is the voice in the race driver’s headset and the commander of a crew that turns the blitz and frenzy of split seconds into poetry in motion. He is the boss, period. Oakley PIT BOSS is the design that owns the respect of its namesake. When an attitude this assertive meets a sculpture this honed, it’s not about getting in somebody’s face and roaring orders. It’s the simple idea that you’ve earned your place, and they damn well better respect that. An original vision of Oakley’s founder, PIT BOSS was four years in the making. State-of-the-art technology wasn’t the issue. Oakley had already become a world leader in optical innovation, and from the first inception of this sunglass, everyone knew it would be a show case for the very best that science could offer. For the founding father of Oakley, it was a matter of art and style, and it became a relentless pursuit of perfection. PIT BOSS had to be absolutely unique, completely original, and as outspoken and assertive as those who earn the right to wear it. Some of the most talented designers in the industry gave a chunk of their lives to attaining that vision. After years of tireless work, they nailed it. The technology of PIT BOSS is just as aggressive as the styling. It matches our stress-resistant OMATTER® frame material with ultra-lightweight titanium plates, forged at searing temperatures and chiseled by Computer Numeric Controlled machinery with a precision of 0.002 inches. That’s just one five-hundredth of an inch, and it gives you an idea of the craftsmanship behind the creation. For high-velocity impact protection, we used hexalobular bolts to secure the plates with authority. Our Three-Point Fit maintains comfort all day while holding the lenses in precise optical alignment, and the lenses themselves are a thing of technical beauty. Every frame comes with premium Oakley HDPOLARIZED lenses that filter out 99% of glare without the visual haze and optical distortion that comes with ordinary polarized lenses. The back of each lens has the added protection and glare reduction of anti-reflective (AR) coating, and the front is augmented with IRIDIUM® coating to further reduce glare while precisely balancing light transmission. On top of all that, we added Oakley HYDROPHOBIC™/OLEOPHOBIC technology, a permanent coating that repels dust while maintaining a smudge-resistant barrier against skin oils, fingerprints, lotions and sunscreens. It even repels water to prevent streaks and sheens from corrupting your point of view. The lenses wrap your vision with 8.75 base curvature, a contour that extends peripheral view and improves side protection against sun, wind and impact. Even with the styling of that much curvature, you’ll have razor-sharp clarity at every angle of view because the lenses are engineered with XYZ OPTICS®, one of the patented innovations of HIGH DEFINITION OPTICS® (HDO®) combines patented optics and PLUTONITE® lens material that provides 100% UV filtering and unsurpassed impact protection. The pure PLUTONITE®lenses filter out 100% of all UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm. Optical precision meets the uncompromising standards of ANSI Z87.1, and same goes for protection against high-velocity and high- mass impact. If you need corrective optics, this frame is available with Oakley Authentic Prescription Lenses. We created three unique lens/frame color combinations for PIT BOSS, and the lenses in each rendition are designed for bright sun. The Matte Rootbeer & Bronze version comes with Tungsten IRIDIUM® Polarized lenses that increase visual contrast to bring out detail and enhance depth perception. The Polished Black & Gunmetal edition comes with VR28® Black IRIDIUM® Polarized lenses that offer the same benefits. If precise color perception is critical, choose the Matte Black & Titanium frame with Black IRIDIUM® Polarized lenses. PIT BOSS is crowned with metal icons specially designed for the OAKLEY ELITE family, an exclusive collection that seamlessly blends the world’s most advanced optical technologies with aesthetics like nothing ever seen in the realm of eyewear. PIT BOSS comes with a custom display box suitable for collectors, plus a custom MICROCLEAR™ bag for lens cleaning and frame storage. Pros: Comfortable, Optimal clarity, No glare, powerful design
The Pit Boss is a great model. While, like others, I think the price is stretching it, the sunglasses are beautiful. The expense and the durability (I'm a tad leery about the durability of the plastic arms) are the only reasons I didn't give it a 5-star overall rating. But, as I noted, the style and performance are awesome. The lens' clarity and the shape and design live up to the hype surrounding the debut of the Oakley Elite line. The Matte Rootbeer/Bronze/Tungsten Iridium is a superb choice, in my estimation. Others have touted the Matt Black and Polished Black models (which seem to be more popular overall). While they are attractive, I like the Matte Rootbeer due to its subtlety. And some who reviewed the Matt Rootbeer expressed some displeasure at its lack of showiness, especially considering the price. However, I think somtimes less is more, especially in this case where the design and size of the Pit Boss already command attention. Sure, the black and titanium, for example, is showy, but the glasses are already showy. I worried that the combination might be gaudy--sure there's an initial "wow" factor that draws attention. But it could overwhelm the very complexities that make the Pit Boss unique. The Matte Rootbeer's calmer, collected appearence lends a dignified elegance to an already aggressive, outspoken design and appearence. That combination has the best of both worlds... energy and power combined with class and dignity. But, whatever your preference, the Pit Boss isn't going to disappoint an avid Oakley fan or, for that matter, any fan of high-caliber, high-quality sunglasses.

It was time to elevate the O collection to the next level.
The PitBoss has recently been put into my daily rotation because of its spectacular fit and style.
I prefer to wear sunglasses that 'hug' my face closely, leaving little opportunity for light to sneak in anywhere.
The PitBoss covers these bases as well provides coverage over my eyebrows allowing a superb look that cannot be obtained with any other pair of sunglasses in my collection.
Also, the fit allows a unique 'feel' when they are on my face, or being stored on my head. The lightweight pressure holding them on my cranium feels secure all the while feeling very comfortable.

I just got my pair of Pit Boss sunglasses. This is my 11th pair of Oakley sunglasses. Yes, they are nice and all but, firstly they are much smaller then they might appear in online photos or even some videos and second, the plastic parts do not feel as solid as one might expect, I am not saying they feel cheap, no, but they don't feel like $600 either, I would say they don't feel any better then my Oil Drum glasses and certainly they don't feel as solid and good as my XX (both pairs) do! so, they are nice, but I would recommend anyone interested in these to try to check them in person or make sure you order from a place with easy returns because some reviews seem excessive in building up these as the "cat's miau" of sunglasses and some people might feel a bit let down once they get them, do not think that because they are the most expensive Oakleys that they are all that! Very cool sunglasses but a realistic price would have been around $350 at most!

Only for the hardcore
Date: July 3, 2009
Pros: Durable, Optimal clarity, elite Cons: far too expensive
If a pair of scars and monster dogs had a sunglass child and then some x-metal DNA was infused this would be the product. They fit very snug and have very large lenses. I ordered the rootbeer frame w/ polarized tungsten and just to let public know the picture on the website is way off. Its definitely a lighter, see through brown frame and the titanium plates are a light, brushed tan. The best thing by far is the O, its just sweet to look at. As a collector I have no intention of wearing this pair, but I think its worth saying outright that this pair is not worth 595, plus tax. I love that they are the first of the elite series and that as a 17 year old kid I was able to obtain one, but for those of you who desire a functional pair of Oakleys that have similair appeal stick to the juliets or romeo 2.0. One more complaint on the subject tungsten polarized is lame, titanium or even gold iridium, polarized or not is more comfortable.
